The first Pecha Kucha Night Nairobi was a hit.
Dear Friends, Our first PKN Nairobi took place at RaMoMA gallery last Thursday 20th November. It was really lovely event. We all enjoyed it and the presenters were wonderful. We had Naveed Awan from Lowe Scanad with his atmospheric photos from Lamu at night. Naveed wrote: “We all have seen picts of Lamu streets and wonderful boutique hotels but what happens as the streets get dark? The pictures I feel capture the spirit of the century old place we history comes alive with shadows, music etc Are they Spirits who see us or are we the Spirits?” Timla Tieng from Saatchi&Saatchi was the next presenter with his lovely Story. Eric Kigada, Architect, was talking about their project for City Bank. The aluminum door shaped by traditional craft of Turkana women. Raphael Kariuki’s presentation of a One man in the advertising Story captured us all. We have big dreams too! Bank Slave & Cliff had a great presentation about their graffiti art around Nairobi. Joseph Barasa presented his varied illustration styles and his latest inspirations. Sculptor Gakunju Kaigwa presented collection of his work including the coffee tree newborn baby – a wonderful story. Kamal Shah is Mixed Media Artist and his big inspiration is jewelry and fabrics. Stephanie Gichau from Red Sky took us on a journey through her advertising inspirations. Big Big Thanks to all who helped to happen the first night: our charming MC Mumbi Kaigwa, RaMoMa gallery, The Iceman for the drinks, Homeboyz, British Council and all others from the 'round table' talks. We are already preparing the next PKN Nairobi for February 2009. Please get in touch with us if you want to do a presentation or with your comments, suggestions and ideas. It would help us enormously if you help us to find sponsors for the next events. Meanwhile Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
