Bemidji, Minnesota, August 10, 2010 . . . Bemidji’s second Pecha Kucha Night will take place at the Cabin Coffeehouse and Café on Thursday, August 26th. Pecha Kucha (most commonly pronounced peh’-chalk-cha) Night, also called “PKN” or “20x20,” is a presentation format where 20 images are each shown for 20 seconds while the presenter speaks. This informal event is meant to be fun, inspiring, and fast-paced. Admission is free and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the performances.
PKN coordinator, Samantha Nienow of Red Zest Design, says, “20x20 is a great avenue for all types of creative people to share their hobbies, passions, stories, and just about anything else with an audience. Topics and images have been approved ahead of time, but the public is encouraged to attend, enjoy, and start thinking about what they would like to present at the next PKN.”
The awkward-to-pronounce name comes from the Japanese word for the sound of conversation. It was developed as a concise presentation format in Tokyo and is now used all over the world to share ideas, portfolios, and stories. PKN utilizes Microsoft PowerPoint, software that is typically used in businesses to disseminate information in a clear yet usually bland manner. PKN veterans work hard to prove that even this seemingly utilitarian program can be used in creative performances that are enjoyable to diverse audiences.
Refreshments will be available during the performances. For more information, e-mail 20x20bemidji@gmail.com, become a fan of Pecha Kucha Bemidji on Facebook or follow BemidjiPKN on Twitter.
