Hi Pecha Kucha Dunedin people
Well, in case you haven't heard how the Dunedin part of the World Pecha Kucha event for Haiti went, we did indeed hold an event on 20 February at the University of Otago. We were scheduled in to be going live with a skype link with Tokyo at 8:48pm however it ended up being an hour later due to technical problems. This is not entirely surprising since it was the first time a world online presentation event has ever been done. Never the less we were ready!
It was great to have a video skype conversation with Mark Klein and to tell him how successful Pecha Kucha Night events have been in Dunedin and how enthusiastic the community is about this event. We raised almost $100 of donations to the Haiti appeal which we have sent through. In total $22,000 has been raised. Far less than what had been hoped but still a valuable contribution.
NEXT PECHA KUCHA NIGHT IN DUNEDIN
This will be held during the 2010 Dunedin Fringe Festival on Sunday 21 March at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery at 7.30pm. We have a good line-up of speakers so far recruited from the Fringe Festival and the Public Art Gallery's contacts. For more information on Festival events go to
www.dunedinfringe.org.nz. The Festival runs from 18-28 March,
NEW COORDINATOR
We have appointed a new coordinator to organise Pecha Kucha Nights in Dunedin. His name is Richard Dingwall and so expect to be hearing from him in future newsletters. A big thank you to Melanie Meunier for her excellent work as Pecha Kucha Dunedin Coordinator for 2009.
