The global phenomenon known as PechaKucha Night is returning for v.06 on Friday May 21 at 8:20pm. Doors will open at 7:20pm with presentations beginning at 8:20pm. The past volumes have been attended by hundreds of designers, artists, professionals and their colleagues to network, share and talk about their work. In February PechaKucha Night v.05 raised $500 in El Paso as a participating city in the Global PechaKucha event for Haiti. During the Global PechaKucha event for Haiti 117 cities came together on a single day and held events across the globe to support Architecture for Humanity's plans for rebuilding in Haiti. Other PechaKucha events for Haiti during February and March took this total to 200 cities.
Globally PechaKucha raised nearly $80,000 to benefit Architecture for Humanity’s efforts to rebuild Haiti following the devastating earthquake earlier this year. This is enough for Architecture for Humanity to build a new school in Haiti. On May 21st PechaKucha Night El Paso will share the news from our participation in the Global PechaKucha event for Haiti and return to the standard PechaKucha Night format of presentations.
PechaKucha is a global phenomenon where creatives can meet, network, and show their work in public — with each presenter showing 20 slides x 20 seconds. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. PechaKucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a demand that seems to be global - as PechaKucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over three hundred cities across the world.
PechaKucha Night v.06 will take place at Forum Arts + Culture (1500 Texas Avenue, Second Floor). Join us for a delightful evening of El Paso’s best creative work. A suggested minimum donation of $5 will be collected at the door to cover the operating costs for PechaKucha events in El Paso.
