Femmes Fatales, an annual Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design special Pecha Kucha event, celebrates the vibrant and talented
women architects in the Los Angeles area. From the emergence of feminism in the 1960s, to its arrival in architectural theory in the 1990s and the 2004 awarding of the Pritzker Prize to Zaha Hadid, women's influence on architecture continues to grow in breadth and in depth. Rather than creating a marginal space to articulate architecture's female voice, the Femmes Fatales Pecha Kucha series celebrates the plentitude and variety of female architects who have articulated themselves in a range of diverse practices--from the quotidian to the incredibly monumental. Femmes Fatales is a cocktail party, an improvised symposium, and serious networking. It honors and challenges Laurie Anderson's 1990 lyrics from Beautiful Red Dress (this needs to be italicized) : "You know, for every dollar a man makes a woman makes 63 cents. Now, fifty years ago that was 62 cents.
So, with that kind of luck, it'll be the year 3,888 before we make a buck. But hey, girls?"
