The PechaKucha Global Newsletter is back with good news, expect timely updates as PechaKucha swings into action for a very busy 2011.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
We had to send one out today for two very good reasons - firstly it is our birthday. The first PechaKucha was held on the 20th February 2003 in SuperDeluxe Tokyo, it started at 20:20 and we had 20 presenters - around 100 people attended and now the rest is history! So Happy Birthday to every PechaKucha City around the world! Today is also another very special anniversary.

GLOBAL PECHAKUCHA DAY FOR HAITI
For those of you who have been running PechaKucha Nights for over 12 months you will remember this day one year ago... The 20th February 2010 was Global PechaKucha Day for Haiti. With only 3 weeks notice we set up a global tag team of presentations and circled the globe with over 120 events on a single day. Not only that, we rather foolishly tried to link everyone together via skype for presentations and chat. It was a glorious success and we raised over $80,000 for Architecture for Humanity, while the Ustream / Skype channel was a glorious chaos! But we tried and had great fun raising money for an important cause - not one person said no to our crazy requests and not one person complained - such is the global PechaKucha spirt. Thank you all again.

A PECHAKUCHA SCHOOL
Our aim was to raise enough money to rebuild one of the devastated schools in Haiti, so today, one year on we are very proud to say that dream is becoming a reality. Thanks to all the amazing efforts of Cameron Sinclair and Architecture for Humanity they have begun to rebuild schools in Haiti, one of which is directly funded by Global PechaKucha Day. To mark the occasion, and let you see progress Cameron has put together an update, in a 20x20 presentation, where you can see the design for the Ecole La Dignite, the school you have funded, taking shape. What better birthday present for PechaKucha than that!

It has been and extremely challenging year for everyone in Haiti, but as you will see AFH have made great progress and they are now doing the most important thing - BUILDING SCHOOLS. As Cameron said AFH are not the first responders, they are the last responders and are in for the long haul. Until the job is done. After you have watched the presentation you will understand that the money we raised has been put to use very effectively. If you can we encourage you all to continue to support the long haul AFH mission mission in Haiti, you can find the pages here.

Thank you all again - it really does show what a positive PechaKucha Spirit can do!

Happy Birthday to YOU! - From all of us at PechaKucha HQ in Tokyo
