jOURNEY TO OUR FIRST PECHA KUCHA NIGHT, REDDING, CALIFORNIA
Just 2 weeks away from our first ever Pecha Kucha Night and our community has rallied to make this one of the best events ever.
FINDING A CO SPONSOR: VIVA DOWNTOWN
With just a description of what PK is, and a peek at the Pecha Kucha Org. site, our community downtown revitalization group, Viva Downtown, was so excited that they threw their full support behind us to become a co-sponsor. An amazing, generous contribution that includes everything from an awesome space and catering to flyer copies: they really have made this event possible. Kudos to Viva Downtown!
GRASSROOTS FOUNDATIONS: Community members
We held a couple of “grassroots” meetings in our homes to present the concept of PKN and get ideas about where to go from there. This group of less than a dozen people were a wonderful and invaluable resource that led us to many of the contacts and actions that we have taken to make this idea a reality.
FINDING PRESENTERS: A lot of legwork
We used a local publication Enjoy Magazine, (see April 2010 PDF “Let’s Chit Chat”) to search out community members that we thought might be interested. We called friends and family and asked our grassroots folks to get the word out. We posted an entry form on the Viva Downtown Website and sent out the description and form to all of our friends and contacts. We’re excited to include in our line-up: Nikolas Allen, Contemporary Pop Artist, the Sunshine Sanctuary, Sally Marbry (one of our founding mothers) , Phil Fountain and many others.
MARKETING: The community likes the idea and spreads the word
Selling the idea of a free event that features the talents and passions of local community members has not been difficult. Community outlets have provided radio, print and on-line coverage with little or no solicitation.
INVITATION TO “Out-of-Towners”: Please join us in celebrating our community.
FRIDAY, APRIL 16TH, 7P.M.
We would love to have any seasoned PKN organizers or just people who are interested, join us for our first event. We can help find accommodations for overnighters and might be able to find hosts for an evening or two. Please don’t hesitate to contact us:
