San Diego Celebrates!
Greetings!
January 20, 2010 was a very special Pecha Kucha Night at El Camino II in Little Italy. Dark and stormy outside but warm and friendly in, SDAF celebrated the anniversary of its first Pecha Kucha Night with lots of great people and presentations. Thanks to all who braved the storm to come and take part in the party.
Since this is our first newsletter, we'd be remiss not send a shout out to PKN Tokyo, Klein-Dytham, Paul and PKN San Francisco, and all the other chapters who have been so supportive and helpful to us during our first year. We're especially grateful to be included in the Pecha Kucha Night family of organizers as it allows us to come into contact with such forward, out-of-the-box thinkers who are doing so much to help and inspire others and make our world - well beyond our community, a better and more beautiful place.
Thanks to Sandra Plaza of Rebuild San Diego (the local chapter of Architecture for Humanity) and Nikki Truitt and her group from GRAIN (Global Responsibility and Innovation Network) for sharing the issues they address in their everyday lives; issues that are now on everyone's mind - and giving us some hope for Haiti. Many thanks also to David McCullough for reminding us that design should be much more than an ego trip, David White for sharing his Brain Trust, Michael Delgato for pointing out various typographies around town, Mark Van Stone for his fascinating insights to the Mayan civilization and architecture, and Howard Blackson for his second PKN presentation, and for his always outspoken urban outlook.
Last but not least, many thanks to Dave Brown of Holiday Matinee (who came in the rain with jet lag and a tie), for gluing the whole thing together.
Cheers! See you April 20th for SDV 6!
