As official chapter of International Pecha Kucha Night™ organization SDAF, along with the local chapter of Architecture For Humanity, Rebuild San Diego, are participating in a PechaKucha Global Day for Haiti. The event will take place on February 20, 2010 at the Whistle Stop Bar, 2236 Fern Street in North Park, and just in case you haven’t heard, will be webcast worldwide for a time in a unique “WAVE” presentation.
In response to the catastrophic magnitude 7 earthquake that tore the country apart, the global PechaKucha family is coming together with Architecture for Humanity to lend a hand in rebuilding Haiti. The global event will stick to its now famous 20 x 20 presentation format: – but will be taking place in 200 cities, generating 2,000 presentations and more than 200,000 spectators simultaneously.
SDAF is pleased to be organizing this event with Rebuild San Diego, and will webcast a presentation by Rebuild’s Managing Director, Sandra Plaza. Join us for live music performances including Chad Farran & Friends and Soul Choro. Additional musicians, presentations and other fun stuff to be announced soon.
A $20 donation is requested at the door. All proceeds to benefit PechaKucha for Haiti Fund, from which all proceeds go directly to Architecture for Humanity 501(c) and will be used solely to build buildings. Design work has already been paid for by donations.
This is going to be a big effort. Not just around the globe, but for us here in San Diego. Typically we begin planning months in advance to secure a location, presenters, audio visual, and help. We now have less than 15 days to make this happen, but when we first heard the idea we only had one thought: San Diego HAS to be a part of this!! Many thanks to Whistle Stop for providing the roof over our heads, and to Howard Blackson for greeting the world on behalf of SDAF and San Diego.
As you know, we typically suggest a $5 donation at the door which helps SDAF produce PechaKucha. This time however, we’re asking for $20, with all donations collected going directly to the rebuilding effort. Please help us in our effort to write a big check to Architecture For Humanity. Let's use our spirit of innovation, creativity, and benevolence to help provide and rebuild in Haiti and to represent San Diego in it's own unique and spirited way!
Stay tuned to SDAF event calendar for updates as they becomes available.
Cheers and Peace,
